During these past three weeks people from all over the world have submitted us their take on Sunwaves 19 Festival. Here’s how this issue looked through their eyes.
Rafael Angel Pineda (Miami, Florida)
I don’t know if is it too late for my review, but here it is…I’m from Chile and I haven’t leave the US for 20 years and my first time I travel out side the US was to Sunwaves…….I’m a music lover, I search all the time for music and I’m also a Vinyl collector…… Took me 20 over 20 hours to get to Sunwaves and I can say, for me, one of the best experience in my life…… I expend most of the time at the festival, I went with 2 other friends, one is a dj from Miami and my other is the one that throw party’s in Treehouse /Miami, his name is Benjamin…my other friend is Dsan….both from Un_Mute….Benji is the one that brings here to Miami to Rhadoo, Raresh, Praslea,Barac,Pedro,Zip and many more…. We have the experience of our life, nothing better to experience, the number one thing in the festival, the Music….unreal sets, from everyone, at any time at the beach!!!weather was the best, so was the vibe, amazing to experience so many people with the same passion for the same music…is just amazing… The organic bar was incredible, let you party for days and not get sick, never seen that before…sound was in another level…obviously I was in the minimal tent at all times, the vibe is so much different than the main stream one….the list of favorite sets and djeys is too long to mention, everyone in his own style….insane….Indiana meet Faster,Arapu,Nu Zau, but meeting Faster was the best of my trip, I’m a big fan of his music and knowing him the level of a person he is, made my trip even better….. What else can I say, I only have good things to say about it….I definitely going next year, bringing music lovers like me with me …

Wow Sunwaves. I traveled over 12 hours with a big crew from Chicago to experience true Romanian techno bliss and Sunwaves delivered. Even though there were some heavy hitters like Marco Carola, Appollonia, Ricardo Villalobos, and Seth Troxler, my mind was more focused on the Romanians and some of the other artists we never get to see in the US. Suciu who I had never heard of before SW was one of the openers and really set the tone for me. His style was fresh and mixes were very clean allowing me to easily find my groove quickly after a long pilgrimage. I hope he makes it stateside soon. Other notable sets were Cabanne, DeWalta, Cristi Cons, Sonja Moonear, Piticu, Raresh, and an absolutely unforgettable morning set from Rahdoo. But the highlight for me was Denis Korablev who kept me dancing from start to finish. I could only hope his set was recorded because it was magic and I would kill to hear it again. Definitely hands down my favorite set of the festival. As far as the logistics of the festival, I want to compliment the wonderful Funktion One sound that I heard. The sound was so clean but still pumped hard and this really made the total experience a great one. Now for the bad or what I think could be improved. There wasn’t any food available which I think not only is important to keep people pumping but also an opportunity to increase sales and to keep people drinking. I also wasn’t a fan of all the glass bottles on the beach and on the dance floor. I stomped on broken glass more than once and I’m just happy I had my boots on. A nice addition would have been program or even a posting on each tent with set times would have made it easier to navigate through the festival. Overall this was an amazing experience that was sonic nectar to my ears and an unforgettable experience with my friends and new friends I made along the way. Bravo Sunwaves and thank you Romania.

I wanted to go to Sunwaves since a while and finally got the opportunity to make it happen this year,
I have been to A lot of festivals in my life and if there is one word that describes Sunwaves best is ‘uniqueness’
First, The quality of the sound system is out of this world. As well as the quality of the the selection of artists . Finally a festival that choose quality over quantity . ( thank you ) . Every single sets delivered is a one way trip to paradise .
Second, People go to festivals for many different reasons and unfortunately all of them aren’t music, I believe that what makes SW so special is that every single person who takes the time to come are all coming for the same reason which is their love and passion for music, all these strangers become family from the moment they gather under the tents , the vibe and energy are just so pure .
Unlike other festivals , people have so much respect for each other and so much respect for the moments they share and I believe that’s why the vibe is so unique; unique sound , unique energy , unique feelings, unique sunset, unique sunrise … Can’t find it anywhere else .
Thank you for the pure moments of magic Sunawaves, I will definitely be back.

for me it is the apogee of underground music … Sunwaves in May puts me without words, it was unbeliavable.

I have been into electro music since at least 10 years now and I am real passionate about it. After going to all the major underground festivals and clubs across Europe, for me going to Sunwaves is like going to the holly temple of music . In my point of view, Sunwaves is the one and only festival that offers such a high quality line up , all the DJs who I admire the most are playing , it’s almost hard to believe and as a matter of fact what makes SW so special is this very selective choice of artists . Romanian techno is so inspiring and it feels like all the person that attend this event put all their problems behind them, relax and enjoy the magic of the sound . Romanians DJs have a very specific style and when they play their famous extended set they send me straight to paradise . The longer the better . Their sound is just so perfectly intense and delicate . No one plays like them. Everyone at SW shares the same passion and that’s one of the reason why there is such a special vibe and great energy . I had the best time and there is no doubt , I will be back, thank you Sunwaves for the unforgettable experience.

The best place I have been in the park without doubt, I have partied all around the world, all over America Miami vegans San Fran New York la, Spain, England, Germany. You name it Iv been, but the bone stop partying and the vibe that sunwaves has is the best, the music is next level of course, the Romanians deliver the best music, see you in August.
Alessandro Falba (Lazio, Italy)
Yes of course! It’s a pleasure for me talk about my impression… however I think it was my best festival. I love the Romanian sound, Romanian artists. It was amazing for me. I come from rome, Italy, and here there isn’t a Romanian club culture and i hope a day this happens. Thanks for the opportunity ❤

What can I say about Sunwaves 19 except for the fact that it changed my life? Due to personal stuff I only arrived only Sunday afternoon in Mamaia and from the get-go it was just like I imagined it’d be. Beginning then until the final moments I’ve missed only a couple of hours and I couldn’t be happier about every single moment enjoyed with all you wonderful people. The artists were great for a small fraction of time and incredible for the other. As every knower would have expected, they all gave their best and it was a total joy. The vibe was Sunwaves-y (an unofficial term for absolute musical/emotional greatness) and I had an absolute blast being in the best place on Earth, the wooden tent, meeting a lot of great fellows, bonding with them and living all those emotions that we were sending each other and those received by the wonderful, incredible people behind the decks. As far as artists and music itself go, there were a couple of hit-and-misses, but given the purity and complexity of the work they’ve made and shared with us it doesn’t really matter, everybody delivered. If I have to be picky about whom I’ve enjoyed most whilst being there, Ion Ludwig, Cezar and Barac & Gescu played some of the best stuff I’ve heard in my life, all in one place and only one night apart. If that ain’t good fortune, then I don’t know what is. Ion Ludwig was different from what I’m used to and what I usually experience, he managed to combine what I know and adore about this way of seeing and feeling things in a very unique fashion, one which I’m very eager to be part of again. Of course, I know that live sets are something else, but this one was incredibly well executed, so hats off to him! Honestly, since I’ve had the absolute pleasure of listening to Cezar at snrs48, I knew that he’ll be my personal hero at Sunwaves and boy I was so wrong and right at the same time. It was supposed to be out of this world, but it was out of this universe! I’ve been planing on having the time of my life on his incredible craftsmanship and I had more than I could bear. His set was so good that I can’t really describe it in a logical way. It was a new reach for my spiritual, emotional and psychological levels, it marked me for life. Going on, it was pretty obvious that Barac and Gescu were the go-to guys to seal the deal, but… WOW! These guys are known for always playing the best tracks to have a wonderful time and dance your shoes off and stretch your smile from ear to ear, all with extreme precision and technicality, but I think that this was next level even for them. ‘Flawless’ doesn’t even cover it! The place was filled with so much happiness I thought we’d explode into a rainbow or something. In between everybody played great, nobody messed the mood, they knew how to get us up and down so we would never get tired or bored and all those unreleased tracks that RA talked about were the ‘crème fraîche’. Always surprising, always great… BEST. TENT. EVER.

Petre was pure magic! I just need to share my thoughts with someone I don’t know…I mean I have my top 5 from the last few days but Petre gave me the exact feeling I was there for…I’m in the office with no one around me having even a slight idea of what I have experienced and that’s perfectly fine for me but if someone happens to see a tear (which appears every ten minutes or so) I just won’t be able to explain…This is the first time I have to come back to Sofia and start working right after sunwaves and my emotions are such a sweet mess… I’ll say it again, just needed to share something with someone I don’t know…U don’t have to say anything.
